Guiora Barak
holds academic degrees in General History and Social Sciences, and for the last 18 years has been a tour guide in a variety of countries in Asia and Europe. His greatest love is for the histories of Spain and Portugal, particularly the Jewish aspect of both. Based on this love Guiora wrote his highly-esteemed book “Gracia of Lisbon”, which tells the story of Portuguese and Spanish Jewries through the amazing life-story of the great Jewish woman Gracia Mendes Nasi – also known as Dona Gracia. Furthermore, Guiora specializes in the history of the Crypto-Jews – known also as Anusim in Hebrew, or Marranos in Spanish – who secretly continued to practice Judaism despite the threat of the Inquisition, and whose descendants we meet today in ever increasing numbers wanting to return to Judaism.
